Mast bolts maintenance

When you inspect the mast step bolts, good to have :

  1. Some penetrating Oil.
  2. Some anti seize grease ( like tef gel or tef45 )
  3. Lots of patience.
One by one, back each bolt out, treat it, and put it back in. Be prepared for tight working quarters, it’s really hard to do with the mast in. If you want to pull the mast these bolts need to turn, so it’s worth the effort to keep them from fusing in the aluminum mast step.

If a bolt won’t turn, don’t force it. Apply penetrating oil ( some call it creep oil ) and let it set for a few days, then repeat. Sometimes tapping with a hammer helps before attempting to turn the bolt.
