Moving to an Airhead composting head in my NS30C. It already smells better!
[Paul Miller]
An upgrade to be sure. You will enjoy the extra storage space too.

I converted to an Airhead last year. We mainly day sail so have limited experience with the side but it worked well. No need for pump outs, walk the liquids to local washroom facilities and love the extra space in the lazarette formerly occupied by the holding tank on our 26U.

Once your holding tank is out, paint everything within reach with a 2 part primer. I did mine twice. It sealed in any 40 year old stink. Even the top of the hatches.

We installed one on our 26’. You will love it. The poop tank would last the two of us about three weeks. We emptied the peel tank every day as we had it overflow once and got it in the bilge. Not a good thing.

I’m interested in what is done with the liquids (such a polite term) when out for ten days on the Great Lakes. I thought the idea was to extend time away from civilization and the amenities there. Also trying to imagine dragging a jug of urine into the clubhouse at the end of the week. I foresee problems there but maybe I’m missing something. TIA

Loving the idea! What does one do with the liquid waste when cruising/anchored?
[Rob Cohen]
We have a composting head on Soave our N33, never thought to take pictures, but looks like you have plenty of photos from others. We like ours. The only thing I’d check is to be sure the height of the seat works for you and your crew. Our seat is a bit high for kid and short folks. Soave’s PO included a step that could be used if needed. I I get to the boat in the next week I’ll try and take a photo of the step and measure the height of the seat.

We went with Airhead over Natures Head because the Airhead had the option of an angled back wall of the tank. That allowed it to snug up to the curved hull of our 30U. This is the only photo I have of our Airhead. It was the initial placement of the head. The finished mounting has a 5/8 inch piece of white Starboard beneath the head. This covered the old bolt holes, supported the urine tank and gave us a place to put our heels when using the head.
