Jake stays (lines) - who has installed them?

A great safety at sea is staying clipped on and attached to the boat. Who has installed these safety devices?

Nicely done. Out of the way. No I don’t have them. What does the clip on the end of your harness look like?

Hi Colle,
From your other posts, I see you enjoy challenging SVHippo. Good to see safety provisions.

Some folks twist their jackline webbing when they rig them so the don’t lie flat on the deck. It makes it easier to clip-on.

Soave is not rigged for jacklines, on the rare occasions I’ve sailed offshore, I’ve been on other boats with owners who refit their boats for offshore cruising.

I do not see Soave as a candidate for an offshore refit, her sweet spot is coastal cruising. My goal is to make her more fit for her purpose, and to enjoy sailing her in conditions that are consistent with her design.

There are some articles on the INA website about upgrading a Nonsuch for offshore sailing. If you haven’t already read them you might find them interesting.

Happy Sailing.

The life vests are Spinlock Vita lite+ with added spray hood, lights, and MOB1 AIS transmitters. The tethers are Kong double IOR style.

Side note: I never realized the importance of spray hoods on life vests until after had taking a proper sea survival course. Why they are not required on all type I and any type V that would be used. Is beyond me.

We use them religiously when sailing at night.

I have a 22. I run my jack line from the mast to the binnacle. The single line athwartship ensures I remain inside the life lines when clipped in at night. I’ve seen too many videos about how near impossible it is to haul oneself back aboard via harness line when off the boat. The mast works for me because there’s nothing to do on the foredeck.
