Step 3 - Setting up Your Profile

Your user profile tells us who you are and lets you make some choices as to how your want the site to look and act.

You can access your user profile by clicking on the icon in the top upper right (it will initially be the first letter of your username or later on the icon that you uploaded). This opens a drop down list. At the bottom of the list is the outline of a person. Click on that and it opens up a new list of items. From there, click on Preferences (it’s next to the last item):

A two line row of choices opens up. In the top line, Preferences is selected, and in the second line are things that you can configure:

You will be initially looking at what’s in the Account tab. We strongly recommend that, in the Name box, you put your name, Nonsuch model and hull number, and location. e.g.

Joe Smyth - N30C #115 - Vancouver B.C.

and then click Save Changes button at the bottom.

With this change at the top of your postings, next to your icon, people will see the information that we have been adding to the bottom of our email postings.

Other things of possible interest -

  • Profile lets you put in an About Me paragraph and boat info.

  • Emails gives you a screen full of choices. You might consider clicking Activity Summary, choosing to have a daily or weekly digest of posts emailed to you… Or. you could click Mailing list mode to get an email for every new post. If you want to receive the full thread and not just the most recent post, you will have to select that in theInclude previous replies in bottom of emails dropdown list.

  • Interface lets you change the overall appearance (light or dark background) and also lets you change the text size for better readability.

Don’t forget to click Save Changes at the bottom of each page if you made any changes.

Using only email for posting and replying

If you plan to just be using emails to post new topics and reply to the emails that you receive from other members postings, and you’ve made those selections on the emails page, then you’re basically done. Just use the address n26_115_233+general-4@discoursemail.com to submit new topics. The subject of new topic can’t be too short (at least 15 characters), and the body of the email must be at least 5 characters (e.g. “Thanks”). To reply to an email from the site, use the email reply arrow as you have been doing.
